Choosing Simplicity: The Wealth in Our Decisions

Last year, I had different priorities and goals to achieve. I had many ideas about personal growth and improving aspects of myself to be able to contribute more to others. The outcome is that the more we engage ourselves to live in the present, and stay aware of what is happening in the world, change will inevitably occur.

We are fortunate to work from any place on the planet, allowing us the freedom to define ourselves, shape our thoughts, and choose our companions in life’s journey. The key lies in exploring the unknown and creating our own moral values, irrespective of societal influences. We are the catalysts for change, seeking revolution when something loses meaning. Why grow increasingly unhappy when we can nourish ourselves with knowledge, a desire for evolution, kindness, perseverance, and strength?

Everyone wants to make the right decisions, especially those meant to last for eternity. Our choices reflect our desire for comfort and well-being at different points in our lives. Having less doesn’t equate to unhappiness or unfulfillment. It’s about choosing practical things with long-term benefits that won’t overly consume us, allowing inner peace to develop over time.

Barry Schwartz’s observations in ‘The Paradox Of Choice’ emphasizes the idea that with too many options, we become responsible for the outcomes. Therefore, it’s crucial to ensure our choices align with what’s good for our souls. Ultimately, happiness and fulfillment are paramount.

Life decisions are not always straightforward. For instance, relocating to a culturally, linguistically, and habitually different country can bring about significant changes, impacting friendships, jobs, and mental well-being. Choices often come from the desire for certainty, control, wealth, possessiveness, and fear of making mistakes or facing judgment. Opting for a life as a traveler, working freely, and surrounded by the tranquility of a beautiful place should be our guiding principle. Health requires attention and involvement, attainable through peace and concentration.

Leading a modest life, and I don’t mean a poor one, is easy to follow and beneficial as it redirects attention from the artificial to the simple things around us. Embracing a minimalist, healthy lifestyle with meditation can be practiced from anywhere.

The reality is that we don’t need much to realize that we already have enough.
